This is my first Indian Wedding what do I need to know?
Indian Weddings are vibrant, large affairs full of laughter, food and dancing. Be prepared for colorful attire, flavorful dishes, and energetic music. Our Indian wedding events include:
Baraat - Celebratory wedding procession for the groom involving live music and dancing. The groom, decked in traditional Indian finery, is usually seated on a ceremonial horse (or an elephant, chariot, or vintage car) as his guests lead the way, dancing.
Sangeet - The pre-wedding party where family comes together to sing, dance, and celebrate the wedding festivities to come.
Anand Karaj - Meaning “Ceremony of Joy” and is the Sikh Wedding Ceremony.
We want to ensure all our guest have a wonderful experience at our wedding and are comfortable at all of our events. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at ishtineweds@gmail.com .
What should I wear?
Our wedding is comprised of multiple events, below are our attire recommendations.
Sangeet - Colorful cocktail attire that you are able to dance all night in. Indian attire is not required but feel free to look at our Pinterest Page for inspiration!
Anand Karaj - For the Sikh Wedding Ceremony, women should wear modest clothing that you are able to sit on the floor in (long dress maxi skirt, loose pants). Men can wear dress slacks, collared shirt, or suit. Once in the temple everyone will be asked to remove their shoes and cover their heads with a shawl or bandana. As always wearing Indian attire is not required but below is some inspiration.
Ukrainian Catholic Church - For the ceremony the attire is semi-formal. It is preferred for men to wear a shirt and tie or suit. Women should wear a dress, skirt, or dress slacks.
Reception - Our reception is black tie optional. Don’t be afraid to pull out your tuxedo or floor length gown for the occasion. Get ready for a night full of celebrating both Ukrainian and Indian traditions.
